1. Exceptional School District

In December of 1968, the Pomperaug Regional School District 15 was formed by the combination of both Middlebury and Southbury Connecticut schools. This included 4 public elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and a single high school known as Pomperaug High School. Today, this school district is ranked as 27 out of the 117 school districts that make up the Connecticut school system. It is also ranked as the fifth best school district in New Haven County.

According to Niche, a popular website to help parents discover the best school systems and neighborhoods for their children, this particular school district gets an A in academics, teachers, college prep, health, and safety. In addition, according to the state test scores, 69% of this district’s students are proficient in math, and 77% in reading. These are great scores, especially compared to a lot of other Connecticut towns, where proficiency scores can barely reach 50%. There is no better way to give your children the best future possible than by putting them through a school system as exceptional as Middlebury’s!  See a complete list of the schools below:

2. Extremely Safe Environment

The towns that tend to have the highest crime rates are the towns that are highly populated. When so many people are forced to live in such close quarters with one another, crime tends to rise. However, this is not the case for Middlebury. Middlebury has a small population that doesn’t even hit the 8,000 mark, meaning that residents are spread out. According to crime rate statistics, Middlebury’s crime rate is 4.9 times lower than the United States average.

In addition, in the span of just a single year between 2017 and 2018, the crime rate fell by 54%. This shows that the crime rate already being very low in this area, and continually decreasing. This also makes Middlebury an optimal place to live, since you don’t have to worry about safety. You can send your children to and from school without having to worry, and don’t have to be constantly looking over your shoulder, like in other towns. If you are looking for safe, Middlebury is the place!

3. Quassy Amusement and Water Park

Do you love rollercoasters and waterslides? When you plan out your summer days, do you make sure to visit an amusement park? Look no further, because Middlebury has its very own amusement AND water park! This particular park was created in 1908 and is still considered one of the nicest parks in the area. It is open and operating for family fun from late April to early October of each year, and boasts 38 rides on over 20 acres!

Whether you like to get a thrill from rollercoasters like the award-winning Wooden Warrior, or splash around in Splash Away Bay, you can bet you’ll be leaving at the end of the day tired, but with a smile on your face! On Friday nights, the park even sells hot dogs, soda, and rides for 50 cents each-what a deal! Make sure to add this to your list of to-dos once you move to Middlebury.

4. Hop Brook Lake

Hop Brook Lake is a popular recreational area that reaches across Middlebury, Naugatuck, and Waterbury. With an enormous span of over 536 acres, this area offers everything. From picnicking to hiking, canoeing and kayaking to swimming and fishing, this is a hub for some summer fun in the sun! In addition, the park also has electrical outlets and charcoal grills within its picnic shelters, so you can meet up with a few families and grill after a long day of activities. Some other features of the park include restrooms, water fountains, volleyball courts, a baseball field, and horseshoe pits. This park is a great place to meet friends and enjoy the great outdoors!

5. Yearly Festivities

Are you a beer fan? A lot of Middlebury residents are, which is why the event Brews by the Lake was formed a couple years ago. This is when, each June, townies enjoy pies and pints by the lake. What could be better than that?! The town also has traditional events, like its annual Easter egg hunt for the community’s children to enjoy, and the Gingerbread Village Christmas Bazaar. In addition, there are always events and speakers at the Quassy Amusement and Water Park, which is another great opportunity to rally Middlebury residents together. Move to Middlebury, and come join them!
